RETRATOS
DE CARLOS LUNA
July 7 - October 23, 2005
MIAMI BEACH
- (July 1, 2005) - The Bass Museum of Art is pleased to present new works
by Cuban artist Carlos Luna. The exhibition is comprised of seven large-scale
gouache and charcoal works on amate paper.
These works
communicate universal themes of the human condition through powerful and
dynamic compositions, vibrant colors and poetic motifs. Topics of machismo,
sex, passion, cultural dislocation and social dilemmas are explored through
a mixture of humor and tragedy, resulting in captivating and powerful
messages that are a testament to the Cuban diaspora.
Born in Pinar
del Rio, Cuba in 1969, the artist studied at the Institute of Superior
Arts (1987-1991), the National School of Plastic Arts (1984-1987), and
the San Alejandro Academy (1983-1984) in Havana, Cuba. His work has been
shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the United States and
abroad.
The Bass
Museum of Art is very grateful to the Cisneros Capital Group for their
generous sponsorship of this exhibition. We are especially appreciative
of the bronze sculpture War-Giro that was gifted to the Museum by the
Cisneros Capital Group which has been installed on the Museum's grounds
to coincide with the exhibition.
