Immediate Release MADE IN MIAMI:
HERVE DI ROSA'S AROUND THE WORLD/12TH STAGE August 11 - October 29, 2006 MIAMI BEACH, FL - (June 5, 2006) While Hervé di Rosa's association with Figuration libre is well-known in France, the Bass Museum of Art will mount the first American museum exhibition of this renowned French artist. Made in Miami: Hervé di Rosa's Around the World/ 12th Stage highlights a recent body of work that explores Miami's visual and popular culture as part of the artist's international odyssey. In this series of paintings, drawings and sculptures, Di Rosa explores a reductive approach to emphasizing the brilliant color and light of the Miami landscape. This provocative series brings the vibrant and unique city of Miami to near abstraction; creating shapes and dazzling color that silently provide social commentary. The subject matter of the paintings includes familiar scenes of Miami landscape, such as pawn shops, repair shops, fast food chains, the immigration building, and the quirky motels. The polyester resin works of sculpture compliment the paintings and drawings, and were created in collaboration with renowned Miami-based French caster Olivier Haligon. Made in Miami: Hervé di Rosa's Around the World/ 12th Stage will open to the public on August 11 and will be on view through October 8, 2006. A color catalog is available for purchase. Bass Museum
