International Museum Day 2005:

Museums Bridging Cultures

MIAMI BEACH, FL, May 2, 2005 - The Bass Museum of Art joins area museums and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau in celebrating International Museum Day on Wednesday, May 18, 2005. International Museum Day recognizes the important cultural and educational contributions made by museums around the world. The theme for the 2005 International Museum Day is "Museums Bridging Cultures" that celebrates the role of individuals and groups whose various backgrounds serve as the cornerstone of the diversity inherent to our heritage.

In recognition of International Museum Day, The Bass Museum of Art will offer free admission to all visitors for Christo and Jeanne-Claude: The Würth Museum Collection on Wednesday, May 18 that is an exciting opportunity to see the artistic process behind large-scale finished public art projects created throughout the world by renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The exhibition features preparatory sketches, large collages, small scale models, wrapped objects and photographs from their earliest to their latest work: The Gates, an installation of 7,500 fabric gates in New York's Central Park. This collection of more than 65 works has never been seen together in the United States.

The presentation of Christo and Jeanne-Claude: The Würth Museum Collection at the Bass Museum of Art is made possible by a grant from the Audrey Love Charitable Foundation.
