OFF THE BEATEN PATH:

INSIDE THE ARTIST'S STUDIO WITH SHEILA ELIAS

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 26, 2005

7:30-9:30PM

MIAMI BEACH - (October 5, 2005) - Chill out after work with complimentary cocktails, culture and good company. Mix and mingle with the ArtCrowd, the Bass Museum' s young professional group, and take an exciting look inside the studio of Miami-based artist Sheila Elias.

Sheila Elias' new photography is a bold departure from the paintings for which she has been recognized as one of Miami's most important artists. Reflecting a perpetually curious and adventuresome mind, the combination of photographic and digitally applied imagery of Sheila's latest work fairly erupts off the surface with powerful undertones of a society in turmoil with the promise of redemption just over the horizon. The glowing colors, sometimes feminist (or feminine) imagery, and sheer beauty of the work signal an important breakthrough for this artist at a significant moment in her career.

Selected public collections include the Brooklyn Museum; Chase Art Collection, New York; Paramount Pictures, Los Angeles; Lowe Art Museum, University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL; Bass Museum of Art, Miami, FL.

Appetizers are courtesy of North One 10 restaurant, founded by Dewey LoSasso, a member of the 1980's era "Mango Gang," who has created what he calls "comfort food with an edge," a menu both familiar and evocative, infused with tropical ingredients from Florida's rich cornucopia and the subtle nuances of international haute cuisine. Complimentary cocktails are provided by Finlandia and Amarula, courtesy of AMC Liaisons, Inc.

ArtCrowd members are hip and educated, twenty-one and older, with professional backgrounds ranging from art to law, fashion to medicine, who share a passion for art and an interest in getting to know more about the art world through educational and social events at the museum and in the community.

"Off the Beaten Path" events feature quarterly visits to artist's studios and hotel and private collections. Members of the ArtCrowd can expect to soak in salient art, sip sinful cocktails, converse with cutting-edge artists, rock to intoxicating rhythms, and feel the pulse of Miami's art scene.
