CURATOR OF EXHIBITIONS

The Bass Museum of Art seeks a Curator of Exhibitions with a minimum of three to five years of experience and expertise in conceptualizing and planning exhibitions and the general management and implementation of logistics involved in the curatorial department.

Reporting to the Chief Curator, the Curator of Exhibitions will form part of the museum’s management team. In consultation with the Chief Curator, he/she will support and organize exhibitions, monitor exhibition department budget, supervise installation and implementation, contribute content to publications, museum signage and website. Additionally, she/he will represent the Bass Museum of Art and become an active participant in the local art community.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• M.A. degree in art history or curatorial studies with specialization in contemporary art

• Knowledge of standard museum and preservation practices

• Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines; highly developed organizational and interpersonal skills

• Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment for creation and implementation of projects; equally comfortable in a leadership role or as a team member

• Prior experience working with contemporary artists, galleries and museums, interest in contemporary art and artists

• Experience with collection management systems preferred

• Demonstrated writing ability; computer, editing and proofreading skills

• Demonstrated public speaking skills

• Excellent listening skills, comfortable receiving input from many sources, able to strategize by analyzing and formulating disparate information into a sound, well-organized plan

• Emotionally mature with a sense of humor and the flexibility and sensitivity to work with diverse personalities and situations, tactful and respectful of other’s concerns, able to reach objectives when barriers arise using flexible and creative alternatives and solutions.

JUNIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER + WEBMASTER

The Junior Graphic Designer + Webmaster is responsible for the design and visual communications of the Bass Museum of Art. They will work directly with the PR + Marketing Manager on design, marketing strategies and implementation for the Bass Museum of Art; everything from designing every exhibition’s print materials (invitations, brochures, etc.) to maintaining the museum’s website to the identity/environmental design and signage within and outside of the museum. Must have sharp typography and design skills, excellent communication skills, a love of art and 3+ years work experience. 

Graphic Design:

  • Ensure branding and marketing of all materials is consistent with the Bass Museum of Art’s mission statement “We inspire and educate by exploring the connections between our historical collections and contemporary art.”
  • Create designs for all print marketing materials for the Bass Museum of Art including (but not limited to): The Education Department/Lindemann Family Creativity Center; Membership Department; All materials related to art exhibitions – logotype/branding for artist name and exhibition, press checklist, event and art exhibition invitations, event and art exhibition brochures, rackards, wall text, etc.; Bass Museum of Art general promotional materials including advertisements, brochures, indoor and outdoor signage, sponsorship decks, etc.
  • Design various eblasts including including “Beats After Sunset”, concerts, lectures, exhibitions; organize and edit content to fit eblast; choose and resize photography; determine weekly based on marketing calendar with PR + Marketing Manager.
  • Create plasma TV presentations and update as needed based on  Bass Museum of Art calendar listings, events, and art exhibitions.
  • Create Plasma power point presentations and update as needed
  • Work with printers for all print jobs related to marketing materials
  • Create, follow, update and project manage timeline for all marketing materials, design and print deadlines with PR and Marketing Manager.
  • Support Director of External Affairs/PR as needed, including (but not limited to): photo search, sending press and art exhibition photos to media, sponsorship deck updates, etc.
  • Copy edit all marketing materials, print, review and deliver sign off folder around to various departments for final copy edit, review and sign off.
  • Schedule all eblast marketing materials/distribution via constant contact with PR & Marketing Manager; work directly with print vendors on print materials printing and mailing schedules, etc.
  • Stay up to date on sponsorships, grants, logos, etc/ to ensure proper placement on all printed and web materials.
  • Traffic all marketing materials if working with outside firm

Web-Manager:

  • Weekly gathering of general updates and photos from all Bass Museum of Art departments, elemental shop, any outside partners for the Bass Museum of Art website.
  • Review and upload content for website calendar listings; search Bass archives, choose and resize images, then upload postings to calendar section of website.
  • Traffic manager/point of contact for website programmer– ie tech problems and updates any departments have to website.
  • Continue to build up website as needed/instructed with website programmer
  • WordPress experience necessary
