provenance research

provenance research-web-header

The goal of provenance research is to verify that museums have legal title to and legitimate possession of works in their collections. The Bass Museum of Art has recently initiated efforts to confirm provenance records for artworks in its permanent collection. In order to fulfill the Museum’s responsibility to make the resulting information available to the public, images and documentation will be added to this Web site. It will also appear on the Association of American Museum’s Nazi-era Provenance Internet Portal (http://nepip.org). In the event that a legitimate claimant should come forward, the Bass Museum of Art is committed to resolving the matter in an appropriate and equitable manner. Questions concerning the Bass Museum of Art’s Provenance Research Project should be directed to collection@bassmuseum.org.
