The Endless Renaissance:
Lecture at the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden by Silvia Karman Cubiñá, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Bass Museum of Art

On October 1, 2008, Silvia Karman Cubiñá began her first day Bass Museum of Art with realization that the museum’s exhibitions were only programmed out three months in advance. This realization is simultaneously a new director’s dream and a nightmare. She soon called her friend, then curator-colleague, and now Adjunct Curator of the Bass Museum, Steven Holmes, and asked him to organize a collection-based show with contemporary art, new and old. That was the vision and those were his simple instructions. What came afterwards was the beginning of a series titled The Endless Renaissance and after much reflection and many, many conversations with all stakeholders…the core of the Bass Museum’s new mission statement: We inspire and educate by exploring the connections between our historical collections and contemporary art. For the talk at Fairchild Tropical Garden, Silvia Karman Cubiñá will informally present the series. She has invited Steven Holmes to join her in this talk as a conversation.

Admission is Free for Fairchild Members, Bass Museum of Art members and children 5 and under.

Non-members: $25 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and up and $12 for children 6-17.
