IDEA@thebass Summer Art Camps 2014
For ages 4-12 I 10 weeks  |  June 9 – Aug. 15
Monday – Friday 9am-3:30pm

Spend your summer making art at the Bass Museum of Art! Summer art classes for children ages 4–12 are taught by professional art educators. Classes include explorations of the museum’s galleries, adventures in Collins Park, and visual and performing art activities. Each week the children will be using painting, drawing and 3-D design to explore the theme of the week.
Classes take place from 9am to 3:30pm in the Dzine Cafe, the Lindemann Family Creativity Center, our courtyard and selected sites around Collins Park and the beach. Children are grouped according to age with individual attention given to all children, from beginner to advanced level. Campers must bring their own lunch and snack for supervised lunch and snack periods. After Care is available from 4pm-5:30pm daily for an extra fee.

Summer Scholarship application

Camp a: ages 4-6

June 9-13: Art & Music – Combine the elements of music to create exciting masterpieces!
June 16-20: World of Color – Discover the science behind colors, what they mean and how to mix them in a variety of mediums.
June 23-27: Favorite Book Interpretations – Using books as a starting point, you will recreate and then create your own illustrated book to take home.
June 30-July 3 (no camp July 4) Pop Art Party Jr. – Enjoy the color party of the Pop Art movement and create art in the style of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and many others from that era.
July 7-11: All About Me – Make drawings, paintings and collages of you and your favorite things.
July 14-18: Great Artists of History Jr. – We will explore all the important and well known artists and art techniques that have shaped how we think about art.
July 21-25: Art From Around the World – Journey through the continents as we explore the many artists and art techniques from around the world.
July 28-Aug 1: Contemporary Artist Exploration – Learn about contemporary art through painting, drawing, sculpting and performance art.
Aug 4-8: Painting Studio – Explore the various expressions of painting by learning how to mix colors and the techniques of the masters.
Aug 11-15: Re-imagining Fairy Tales – Rediscover your favorite fairy tales or make up your own through an array of creative thinking.

Camp b: ages 7-12

June 9-13: Film Making – Smart phones, iPads, digital equipment, oh my! From basic story board to filming with equipment, campers will explore the art of movie making.
June 16-20: All Things Paper – Campers will experiment and make faux Amate and papyrus. Discover the origins and uses of different paper from around the world!
June 23-27: Paint Galore – Explore the various expressions of painting by learning how to mix colors and the techniques of the masters.
June 30-July 3: Pop Art Party – Enjoy the color party of the Pop Art movement and create art in the style of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and many others from that era.
July 7-11 (no camp on July 4): Fiber Arts and Print Making – Fuzzy, fibers, felt! Discover ways to make art using a variety of fabrics.
July 14-18: Great Artists of History – We will explore all the important and well known artists and art techniques that have shaped how we think about art.
July 21-25: Digital Art – We will explore digital art and photography.
July 28-Aug 1: Puppetry – Create all sorts of strange puppets and marionettes using a variety of objects.
Aug 4-8: Inventors Workshop – working off of a design challenge, students will get inventive to make up fun inventions.
Aug 11-15: Unconventional Painting – Turn up the notch on your creativity by using strange materials to paint and add color to your art!

Museum Policy:

• Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Students who cancel any class ten (10) days before the first day of camp will receive a tuition refund, less a processing fee of $25 for Members and $50 for non-Members.
• Students who cancel any class less than ten (10) days prior to the first day of class will not receive a refund. Museum credit can be applied to other programs.
• No fees will be returned for failure to attend. Museum credit can be applied to other programs.
• All IDEA@thebass teachers, interns and counselors (over 18) have undergone a state and federal background check.
• The Bass Museum of Art – IDEA@thebass Art Camps reserves the right to substitute instructors due to any emergency or illness.
• The Museum is not responsible for any artwork or personal items lost, stolen or left in the classrooms.
• Full tuition is required at the time of registration.
• There is a $35 charge for all returned checks.
• The Bass Museum of Art – IDEA@thebass Art Camps are organized for educational purposes and offers programs and activities to everyone without regard to race, religion, national origin or sexual preference.
• The IDEA@thebass Art Camps follow the Miami-Dade County School District’s schedule for inclement weather.
• Students and parents must respect the rights of other students and staff or they will be asked to leave the camp and forfeit tuition.
• After Care ends promptly at 5:30pm, if the parent/caretaker is late they will be charged an extra $10 per half hour that they are late.
