Olaf Breuning combines reality with illusion, and authenticity with artifice to create his uneasily humorous photographs, drawings, films, sculptures and installations. Emphasizing a tantamount treatment of craft, medium and cultural signifiers, Breuning employs a specific brand of pastiche that draws on everything from the Easter Bunny to Andy Warhol’s ‘Marilyns’. This presentation of three metal sculptures – ‘Dreams/Dirt‘, ‘There is Absolutely Nothing to Find Up There’, ‘I Don’t Want to Go This Way’ – follows a recent public installation in New York’s City Hall Park that was organized by Public Art Fund. Additionally, Breuning has two major public commissions scheduled to open next year in Toronto and New York.
