Candles are lit both in times of sadness and joy, one ritual for seemingly opposing circumstances. And that’s what this piece expresses- the coexistence of these conditions. It’s a lamentation for the atrocities happening all around us at every moment, but it’s also a celebration of this amazing world for exactly what it is. Each candle is rising up and sinking down, gravity and levity. And at the division of these two forces, dripping wax forms a third spoke, simultaneously asking and answering the question, “Y?”
