Collections Management Intern


The Bass Museum of Art is currently seeking a limited number of Collections and Exhibition Interns. Participants will gain hands-on experience and play an integral role in the Bass Museum’s collection management and care, assisting in large-scale preparations for the movement and storage of pieces throughout the spring, summer and fall of 2015. Interns will receive comprehensive training in registration, object handling, cataloging, inventorying, as well as, data entry and file management.

Interns will participate in a series of professional development workshops and site visits to gain an understanding of how various museum departments’ function, and meet a network of peers in the greater Miami-Dade arts community.

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting inventory and condition checks
  • Assigning accessions numbers and tagging objects
  • Photo-documenting objects
  • Preparing, packing and transporting objects for off-site storage
  • Unpacking, reorganizing, and rehousing objects in fine arts storage facilities
  • Managing and updating file system and performing data entry with EmbARK collections management system


  • Basic knowledge of, and experience with, current practices and innovations in museum collections management
  • Mobility and sensory capability required for the care of the artwork, access to telephone and personal computer

Duration and Compensation

3-4 days a week (10am-5pm) for a continuous 8-10 weeks between May and September, 2015.

This is an unpaid position

International applicants must obtain a J-1 Visa or equivalent on their own.

Preference will be given to students registered in credit-granting programs. Student applicants should consult their academic advisor for additional information.
